Traffic Management and our staff are aware of our impact on the environment. We believe we have a responsibility to our clients, employees and the communities we live in, to do our best to go green. We intend to work towards better serving our clients and neighborhoods while minimizing our environmental impact.

Reducing Carbon Emissions by 50%

Through our relationship with Terra Pass, TMI is cutting our carbon emissions by 50%. We plan to extend this program by making carbon offsets available to our clients.

What is a Carbon Offset?

A carbon offset is a certificate representing the reduction of one metric ton (2,205 lbs) of carbon dioxide emissions, the principal cause of global warming. Although complex in practice, carbon offsets are fairly simple in theory. If you develop a project that reduces carbon dioxide emissions, every ton of emissions reduced results in the creation of one carbon offset. Project developers, like TerraPass, can then sell these offsets to finance their projects.

There are hundreds of different types of carbon reduction projects. For example, a wind farm generates clean energy, which reduces carbon emissions from coal-burning power plants. In order to finance its operations, a wind farm can sell these reductions in the form of carbon offsets.

Are carbon offsets a substitute for conservation?

Absolutely not. “TerraPass” is permission to do all you can to be a good steward of the environment. Our actions affect the environment in many ways, and TerraPass is one way individuals can be proactively responsible. We encourage everyone to think broadly about how best to preserve the environment for future generations.

Working Towards Minimizing Our Environmental Impact

Cutting emissions from our fleet

5% of Traffic Managements fleet is propelled by natural gas. Though this is still a small percentage, we are striving to increase this number as our fleet grows

The remaining 95% of our fleet is gasoline or diesel. Through a partnership with TerraPass we are purchasing carbon offsets to help reduce the carbon impact our fleet has on the enviroment.

We are proud to say that 100% of our Ligted Signs (cms & fas) are solar powered.

Reducing the amount of waste we produce

Though the majority of our impact takes place on the street, Traffic Management is working to reduce the waste we produce in the office as well by:

• Utilizing technology to reduce our dependance on paper, and purchasing recycled printer paper when we need it.
• Having an office recycling program for paper, aluminum, and plastic.
• Purchasing “green energy” from our local utility company.
